aidXchange is an internet-based platform that brings together people working in the civil society to support each other by sharing experiences and resources in active partnerships.

The members of aidXchange work in widely differing fields, including health care, the arts, sport, education, justice and ethics, gender, youth and the environment.

The key idea is for people to work together for the benefit of their communities, regardless of geographical location

Membership is open to all individuals and organisations subscribing to the basic philosophy and aims of aidXchange.

Members, whether individual or organisational, are asked to describe their areas of work and interest, their skills, abilities and needs.

All you need to do is go online to www.aidXchange.org and follow the path to “Become a member”.

You will be asked to enter information about yourself, including your experience, interests, skills, needs etc.

No. You can join as an individual who likes to work in partnership, or contribute in other ways to activities at the civil society level in your own society or elsewhere in the world.

Non-government organisations are also eligible to join.

aidXchange is strictly non-political, it does not support and is not formally linked to any political party or organisation. One of its key aims is to support communication and dialogue among people with widely differing views. Indeed, we believe that this is the only way in which peace can ultimately be achieved in areas of conflict, including violent conflict.

However, we operate according to clearly stated values and principles, which include mutual respect among members, an openness to talking and listening, a commitment to democratic decision-making processes, and rejection of discrimination on the basis of race, gender, religion or cultural beliefs.

aidXchange provides an online site where people, looking for ways to work with others, can find support for their own or other communities. It provides a framework within which they can share their achievements and examine those of others, how they can share materials and resources, and interact directly through video, phone, email or other forms of communication.

aidXchange also offers a service that suggests possible matches between individuals or groups with skills to offer to those with complementary needs. aidXchange facilitators help coordinate conversations between members and assist them in formulating projects with clearly defined, achievable outcomes.

Once you are an aidXchange member, you click on the “ACTIVITIES” button, then “skills” or “needs” buttons and search for people who match your areas of interest.

aidXchange can also provide a trained facilitator to help you establish a relationship with other members.

There are two things you can do...

(1) You can search the aidXchange site for members and put your ideas to them and explore whether you can work together to develop your project, or

(2) You can click the “GALLERY” button, then the “add project” button and complete the fill in the new project description. aidXchange can help you find partners or provide advice about how you might be able to get your project off the ground.

When you sign up as an aidXchange member tick the 'Yes' box to the question 'Are you available to assist aidXchange as a Facilitator?'. aidXchange will contact you and discuss how to proceed.

The aidXchange site is accessible from any computer or mobile device that is internet enabled. There are no restrictions on the type of operating system.

In general the faster the operating speed of your computer the better the performance of the web site. The same applies to internet bandwidth and mobile devices.

No...there are no special technical requirements to use the email system.

The video conferencing system currently supports one of the following browsers:
- Chrome
- Chromium
- Opera
- Firefox Nightly

When Apple releases the required browser plugin you will then be able to use Safari as well. We will notify you when that occurs.

Your image on the top right, of the aidXchange site, has a small round indicator that displays your 'presence status' on the site. There are three conditions that can be displayed:
- available (on-line) = green
- busy (online but do-not-disturb) = white
- not available (off-line) = red

The displayed condition can be changed to assist other members who may want to communicate with you in real-time. This status condition is visible to all members when performing various searches on the aidXchange site and where your image is displayed.

aidXchange is a 'Not For Profit' enterprise in which members of communities around the world share their resources and support each other.

Your donations and any advertising revenue help sustain the technical infrastructure required to maintain this global aidXchange initiative.

aidXchange is funded from donations and revenue generated from advertising within the site. Members and supporters are encouraged to donate through our secure site.

Donations can be made via the "PLEASE DONATE' button on the welcome page of the aidXchange site.

For donors in Australia donations are tax deductible.

It is our hope that as aidXchange grows it will be able to provide some financial support to help facilitate activities of its members. At this stage, our intent is to establish a micro-funding support process for projects being conducted by community organisations.

However, aidXchange is not primarily a funding organisation. Indeed, one of its aims is to help community organisations, especially those in developing countries, to move away from a culture of dependence on financial aid, whether in the form of humanitarian or development assistance.

Details of any funding program will be released via this web site when aidXchange is well established.

Some services are and some are not. Each type of service will clearly display if there are any associated costs. So the member will always know in advance of any paid-for-services.

For example, aidXchange itself provides the platform for videoconferencing and email services and access to various sources of information. However, some other services, such as telephone, music, games etc. will need to be paid for in the usual fashion.

aidXchange also allows individuals or groups who are offering services of potential value to members for a fee to advertise these through the site. After all, we recognise that this is how people often make their living. We do have an advertising policy that distinctions between advertising that supports communities and that which does not. We invite any members with concerns about any of our content to contact us.

In general the more the membership utilises the services provided through the aidXchange site the greater the benefits that can be disbursed to the members.

We will provide regular bulletins and discussion forums about the operation of aidXchange to explain what we mean by these terms. However, we welcome inquiries to any of our administrators via admin@aidXchange.org or internally through the system at any time.

Members can create their own 'Posts' (publications) by clicking the 'TOOLS' button and then 'create post'.

Posts can be created as:
- a blog
- a news item
- a bulletin item
- an announcement
- an event

Each 'Post' type has publication requirements and will be made available by aidXchange shortly.

Reconciliation refers to the promotion of communication and dialogue across difference, across the divides of culture, race, religion, gender, nationality etc. In the reconciliation framework the differences between people are seen as a precious resource, to be respected and protected as sources of new ideas and possibilities for action.

Conflict resolution, by contrast, tends to focus on what separates people or makes them different, with a view to overcoming difference, at least in relation to particular issues. While reconciliation often certainly contributes to the overcoming of obstacles to communication, and thereby to the resolution of conflicts, its focus is on maintaining difference rather than overcoming it.

Difference refers to the relationships between objects or ideas that give meaning because of what separates and distinguishes them.

It does not refer to distinctions that arise by simply comparing things with each other on the basis of their prior identities or meanings.

(For example, lightning is the product of a potential difference between a cloud and the earth, and different genders are only constituted in relation to each other.)

Anyone who subscribes to our core values of mutual respect, openness to dialogue, a commitment to democratic processes, and rejection of discrimination is welcome to join.

aidXchange is not a suitable forum for people with beliefs that are not open to authentic communication and dialogue.

Reconciliation encourages individuals and groups with widely differing viewpoints to talk with each other and to try to find common ground. We try not to judge individuals according to their belief systems, providing that they are prepared to engage with others in open and respectful communication.
